Assurant Group Names Chief Operating Officer; Promotes 2 to Executive Vice President

ATLANTA/MIAMI: Assurant Group named a new chief operating officer and promoted two senior managers to executive vice president.

President and CEO Bruce Camacho announced that John B. Owen of Key Largo, Florida has been named chief operating officer, replacing R. Kevin Klotz, who died March 5, 2003. An executive vice president and member of Assurant’s Executive Board since June 2001, Owen previously served as chief information officer.

In his new role, Owen will have overall management responsibility for processing operations, claims, hazard insurance operations and consumer marketing services, which he previously managed.  Owen has more than 20 years experience in information technology at McDonnell-Douglas, General Dynamics, American Airlines, Arrow Electronics and Citicorp Credit Services. He joined an Assurant predecessor in 1998 as senior vice president for information technology. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Management from the School of Engineering at Auburn University.

Robert Lewis of Norcross, Georgia succeeds Owen as chief information officer.  He was promoted to executive vice president and joins Assurant’s Executive Board.  Lewis has more than 20 years experience in information technology systems management and applications development.

Formerly a group senior vice president, Lewis has headed applications development at Assurant since June 1999. Previously he served as president of Electronic Commerce Systems, a start-up company in Atlanta, and as an executive vice president of CheckFree Corp., also of Atlanta. Lewis has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Western Carolina University.

Adam Lamnin of Miami, Florida, was promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer, succeeding Mr. Klotz in that role. Lamnin also joins Assurant’s Executive Board.  A certified public accountant, Lamnin will manage Assurant’s finance, accounting, actuarial, financial analysis and tax departments.

Lamnin joined American Bankers Insurance, a predecessor of Assurant, in 1992 from accounting firm of Price Waterhouse Coopers. Since August 2001, Lamnin has served as a group senior vice president in Sales and Marketing, responsible for Assurant’s Mortgage Lending Solutions, Specialty Property and Automotive and Recreational Services businesses.  Raised in South Miami, he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting from the University of Florida.
