Assurant Solutions to Administer All CompUSA Service Plans Sold Prior to Dec. 31, 2007

ATLANTA: Assurant Solutions today announced that, as part of the orderly wind down of CompUSA, Inc., Assurant Solutions will administer the approximately 2.7 million service plans sold by CompUSA on or before Dec. 31, 2007.

Assurant Solutions said this program was developed with CompUSA to ensure continuity of responsive service levels. The service plans that Assurant Solutions will administer include those plans sold to personal computer buyers under the name CompUSA Technology Assurant Plan or TAP.

Assurant Solutions is part of Assurant, Inc. (NYSE:AIZ) and provides extended service contracts through more than 10,000 retail stores in the United States. Its programs cover a wide range of products, including home appliances, consumer electronics, fitness equipment, furniture, jewelry, lawn and garden equipment, personal computers and wireless and mobile devices.

“We decided that the best way to ensure that former CompUSA customers are provided consistent, high quality service was to assume responsibility for administering the service plans that we were not already administering” said Joe Erdeman, president of the Assurant Solutions extended service contract business.

Effective March 27, 2008, all calls for service to toll-free numbers previously provided CompUSA customers were directed to call centers operated by Assurant Solutions and its service partners. Erdeman said that Assurant Solutions has set aside sufficient reserves to cover its obligations for the terms of the CompUSA plans.

Customers seeking assistance under CompUSA service plans sold on or before Dec. 31, 2007 are advised to call Assurant Solutions at the appropriate number listed below:

  • Repairs/Product Exchange (all merchandise): 877.520.8324, available 24/7
  • Platinum/Premium Tech Plans: 800.827.0975, available 24/7
  • International Service Plans (laptops only): 011.972.919.7591, available 24/7
  • Puerto Rico Customers (all plans): 866.394.2815, available Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Eastern.

Carry-in service is no longer available. CompUSA customers who subscribed to a plan that included carry-in service at CompUSA stores will now be provided pre-paid shipping boxes to return items to a service center for repairs or be provided with on-site service.
