AssureConnectionSM Wireless Handset Protection Program Combines Comprehensive Coverage with Flexibility to Create Customized Offerings

The Signal, a leading administrator of wireless handset protection programs, and Assurant Solutions have partnered to launch AssureConnectionSM, a service contract-based protection program that can be customized to provide coverage for almost any wireless product and priced by market.

The Signal and Assurant Solutions said they developed this unique product to address the marketing challenges that carriers are experiencing in today’s diverse marketplace and to overcome the limitations of current handset protection programs. Because AssureConnection is a service-contract based protection program, it can be promoted more aggressively at the retail level, especially in the indirect market, which currently accounts for the majority of wireless sales.

AssureConnection also offers carriers more flexibility in the way that they market the product through store-level associates. The Signal said the product has resulted in increased customer acceptance rates at the carriers who currently offer AssureConnection.

Steve Cloetingh, executive vice president for Signal Holdings, said that the typical acceptance or attachment rate for wireless protection plans is in the range of 20 to 30 percent. “One of our large clients implemented AssureConnection in the fall of 2007. Since then we have seen acceptance rates in some markets that are more than double the norm for insurance-based products,” he said.

Cloetingh said AssureConnection is “a win-win all the way around” for sellers and consumers. “This product really represents a paradigm change in the marketplace. The one-size-fits-all protection programs introduced in the 1990s have become dated along with the wireless phones they were designed to cover. Now we can make rapid changes in product offerings and pricing based on marketplace changes. A broader selection of product plans and price points yields better penetration for seller and improves customer satisfaction with the buying experience.”
