Assurant Solutions Privacy Policy

The trust of our customers is Assurant Solutions’ most valuable asset. Assurant Solutions safeguards that trust by collecting, using and keeping its customers' non-public personal information in a secure environment, and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Collecting and using personal information

We will inform you of how we intend to use the personal information collected about you, and will use this information only for those specific purposes. Also, we will only collect information needed for those stated purposes. If we wish to use your information for any other purpose, we will obtain your consent before it is used.

You may refuse or withdraw consent for us to collect, use or release your information, and we will record and respect your choices. If your choice has an impact on our ability to provide you with our services, we will advise you.

Why we ask for your personal information

We ask for your information to establish a customer profile, so that we can better meet and serve your needs. The information we obtain depends on the product or service we are providing you.

We may obtain information about you from the following sources:

1) Information we receive from you, or which is provided on your behalf, on applications and forms, such as your name, address, telephone number and employment information.

2) Information about your transactions with Assurant Solutions or other third parties, such as your name, address, telephone number, age, credit card usage, purchases, insurance coverage, transaction history, claims history and premiums.

3) Information from health care providers, such as doctors and hospitals to determine your past or present health condition. Health information will be collected as we deem appropriate to determine eligibility for coverage, to process claims, to prevent fraud, and as authorized by you, or as otherwise permitted or required by law. Please note we collect health information only to administer a product or service, such as life or disability insurance, that you have applied for or purchased. For example, if you purchased involuntary unemployment insurance, or an extended service product from one of our companies, we do not collect health information to administer this particular product.

When we release your personal information

Assurant Solutions may release your information to third parties in the following instances:

a) With your consent, Assurant Solutions may share your information with a third party.

b) For customer service purposes, we give limited information as needed, to our suppliers and agents who provide goods and services to you.

c) When required or permitted by law, we must give information in response to a legally valid enquiry or order. We may disclose information to help us collect a debt you may owe Assurant Solutions.

d) Transfers of a business – We may sell parts of our businesses. Information relating to an account may be one of the transferred business assets.

In addition your information may be processed and stored in the United States and may be subject to access by US authorities under applicable laws.

How we protect your personal information

Assurant Solutions restricts access to your information to employees of our member companies and our agents, whom we determine have a legitimate business purpose to access such information in connection with the products or services you have applied for, or hold with us. We employ strict security procedures to protect our customer data. We provide training and communication programs to educate employees about the meaning and requirements of our strict standards for data security and confidentiality.

All our suppliers and agents, as part of their agreements with us, are bound to maintain your confidentiality and may not use your information for any unauthorized purpose.

When your information is no longer needed for the purposes explained to you, we have procedures to destroy, delete, erase or convert your personal information to an anonymous form.

Your right to access your personal information

If you would like access to your personal information, simply forward a written request to the address appearing at the end of this Privacy Policy. There is no charge for the information you request, unless we advise you in advance. We will respond to you as promptly as possible.

We will not be able to provide information from our records if those records contain references to other persons, are subject to legal privilege, contain confidential information proprietary to Assurant Solutions, or cannot be disclosed for other legal reasons.

If you have questions regarding decisions made about you, we will tell you the reasons for those decisions.

Keeping your personal information accurate

We will make every reasonable effort to keep your information accurate and up-to-date.

Please keep us informed of any changes in your personal information, such as a change of address or telephone number. If you find any errors in our information about you, please tell us and we will correct and update your file. We will also supply the corrected and updated information to other parties, if necessary. For information that remains in dispute, we will note the dispute in your file.

Respecting your preference

We will explain your options for refusing or withdrawing consent to the collection, use or release of your information, and will record and respect your choices.
